American silver eagle bullion coins have been struck annually since 1986.

This is the first time in more than a decade that silver eagles have been produced at San Francisco.
Silver eagles were struck concurrently at the WestPoint mint and the San Francisco mint from 1989 until 2000.
Production was moved exclusively to WestPoint in 2001. Both bullion investors and coin collectors are seeking out coins produced at San Francisco that have been produced in small quantities. However, because there is no mintmark on the coins identifying where they were struck the only way to guarantee a coin is struck at San Francisco is to buy independently certified coins. Demand for certified coins in the higher grade of MS69 and MS70 is extremely high.
