I would stick to Silver American Eagles both certified & bullion as you will always have the numismatic upside should the economy turn positive as well as the doomsday potential with the bullion.
Don't get caught up in the numismatic naysaying as you really need to be careful of the source.
Certified Proof Eagles from reputable online dealers in "MS70" or Silver Eagle Bullion straight from the U.S. Mint would be my recommendation.
If you can find any good deals for Gold American Eagles, I would be snapping those up ASAP as well.
